Join us at The Yan Bistro for seasonal menus inspired by our farm history.
Our ever-changing menu is full of rustic Cumbrian classics, nostalgic British favourites and exciting modern dishes resulting in food that is good for the soul.
Thoughtful, hearty and with seasonality at the core of everything we do in The Bistro, as well as sourcing our ingredients locally from some brilliant Cumbrian producers. Some of our ingredients come from the farm, like our eggs fresh from the hens and ducks you may see pottering around, small batch seasonal vegetables from our kitchen garden and Herdwick lamb from the surrounding fields (don’t worry, with the farmer's permission!).
In an area dominated by fine dining, we have worked to redefine what casual dining looks like in The Lakes. When you walk through the doors at The Yan, we want everyone, guests and locals alike, from walkers fresh off the fells to families dining for a special occasion to feel welcome. Our wholesome ambience, Cumbrian hospitality and family-style atmosphere will ensure you experience a warm, personable service whenever you visit our Bistro. We have a kids menu and welcome dogs too.
As Grace Dent, The Guardian food critic said when she visited “the thing I love most about taking my family out is the moment when everyone is eating heartily and shuts up. Dinner at Broadrayne was like that.”
We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.
And after all that fresh air and fell-stomping, you’ll have definitely earned a good feed. Luckily, when it comes to places to eat in Grasmere, you won’t have to look far—our very own bistro in Grasmere is just a few steps from your room, serving up proper, hearty dishes with zero faff.
From slow-cooked local lamb to fresh seasonal plates and the all-important sticky toffee pudding, we take food just as seriously as the fells. Whether you're refuelling after a big hike or just here for the pudding (no judgment), The Yan is the perfect spot to kick back, tuck in, and enjoy some of the best Grasmere restaurants have to offer—without having to get back in the car.
So, what’s it going to be? A fell walk first, then a feast? Or straight to the food? We support both choices.
