The Yan cordial recipeCracking Cordial Recipe

As you'll know, here at The Yan, we're all about turning the bits and bobs that might otherwise get chucked, into something lush like our homemade fruit syrups and cordials. It's really simple....honestly. Whatever’s in season or looking a bit sorry for itself in the kitchen gets a new lease on life. Fancy making something tasty with leftover fruit peels or that apple that's seen better days? This is your ticket!

Bottling it up makes for a cracking little pressie, and it's a belter of an addition to the cupboards for when you fancy a quick, refreshing drink of squash. Top it up with a bit of fizzy water for a non-boozy treat, or splash it into your prosecco for a bit of a fancy twist.

Now, let me walk you through our Orange and Raspberry special – it’s a real crowd-pleaser:

What you'll need:

  • A couple of oranges

  • 125g of raspberries

  • 500g of the regular granulated sugar

  • 500ml of water

Here’s what you do:

  1. Chop all your fruit into bits – don’t be shy.

  2. Pop the fruit in a saucepan with 500ml of water and let it simmer away for half an hour.

  3. Strain the fruit out, a fine sieve is fine if you don't have a muslin cloth, so you're left with just the fruity water.

  4. Get all that sugar mixed in until it's dissolved completely and take it off the heat.

  5. Let the cordial cool down a tad – patience is a virtue!

And there you have it! Bob’s your uncle! Ready to enjoy however you fancy.
